Hey zoners!
Well, at midnight, I will be turning 26 years old! :) I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing yet, I sometimes don't plan things until the last minute lol.
So, I'm just curious what you guys like to do on your birthdays? Do you have any fun, crazy, or unforgettable birthday memories?
Please feel free to share.
My most fun was my 24th I think. A friend and I went out to a pizza place and I got absolutely plastered. This was back in 06 when Colorado had an epic snowstorm that shut down lots of things, even the airport. Anyway, I gorged myself on beer and pizza, and we were driving back to my place at like 1 or 2 in the morning, and his car got stuck in a ditch. We had to get out and push it outta there. Fun times. Haha.
well, one time some friends arranged a motorcycle ride, on a harley, for my birthday.
and once I forgot my birthday, a couple of days after the day I thought, "Hmmm, oh, it was my birthday the other day"
Imprecator, that's quite a birthday lol!
oh wow Ash, you actually forgot it was your birthday? lol..
great stories, keep sharing! :)
i don't really do anything special for birthdays, for me it's just another number, and the same as any other day
I can't say I've had any wild birthdays, but usually there's a cake or dessert item of my choice, a few gifts, and we either go out for dinner or my wife makes me something I like.
to me, birthdays are nothing special. I've never understood why so many people feel that they are, but to each their own.
I personally don't do or plan anything much for my birthday, but to me, it doesn't feel like a birthday without a cake with candles to blow out. The most interesting one I think I've had as far as that, was when we had a pizza instead of a cake. At the time, I was kind of disappointed actually, since I like sweets more than pizza, but thinking back on it, that was kind of cool that my aunt thought to do that since we otherwise wouldn't have gotten to have a cake on that day. *smile* Also, since almost 10 years ago I've been sharing my birthday with my niece; we have the same birthday, so my sister plans something for the both of us but with our own cakes. So all of those times have been good times as well. *smile* I'm not sure how this year's will be though, as now, she'll be 1 year closer to being a teenager and is changing in that she's really more into talking with and hanging out with her friends. If nothing happens this year, as long as there's a cake with candles and family/friends to wish me and sing Happy Birthday, that will be a nice enough birthday for me. *smile*
very cool! *smile*
Last year I had to work on my birthday for my internship in order to complete the hours needed for college credit.
And, the year before that I was taking a summer algebra class. so, I wasn't able to do anything special on that particular day.
But this year, I'm finished with school and I'm not working yet, so it's going to be a fun day! :) So far I know I'm getting a pedicure but don't know what else yet.. will let you know. :)
great stories, keep sharing. :)
I normaily go down hill skiiing with a group of my friends. and have cake. and such. it's pretty neat. one time i went to the movies for my birthday. and also got a big hot cookie. from my old partner. for a gift. great times to remember. etc. but i enjoy spend time with family and friends on my birthday.
I used to get those huge cookies they used to sell at the mall instead of a cake. They were like the size of a large pizza and lots of icing and sprinkles and stuff.
my birthday is on October, and so as 3 of my friends, so we usually combine our birthdays and throw a huge party and get wasted.
Those cookies sound absolutely delicious! :)
and Rusty, that's neat that you and some of your friends have your birthdays in the same month. makes sense to just have one huge party for everyone.. probably lots of fun.
I don't understand being down on birthdays. Life is full enough of challenges, difficulties, work, more work, and paying the bills. Humans get a lot of satisfaction out of celebrating, so to me any reason to do so is reason enough.
Leo, when you don't grow up with those sorts of celebrations, not seeing the point in celebrating them is where that comes from (speaking for myself only, here).
Ah that is an explanation then. I can see that.
Hi,
I like to cut a birthday cake, play with my friends, and someties our family buys fireworks.
*laughs at davo* oh you craaaaaaaaazy craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy old man. how the fuck do you forget your birthday?
well, my favorite birthday was probably last year, my 19th. a friend of mine, and another friend, we went out to have some chinese dimsome, the place wasn't all that good, but anyway..... then we went to the cheese cake factory yum yum! hahah! I just usually like hanging out with friends and maybe going out to lunch or dinner or whatever. and having fun that way, no not really wild so....
Mine and my moms birthday is on the same day.
We use to have our birthdays on the same day.
My moms birthday is on the 10 of september and you know mine.
My mom use to by us both a cake.
She use to get me things for my birthday and I do not remember what else we use to do.
Sance I have been with my husband he has gotten me things.
My friend Karen does the same for me.
I love it a lot.
i am gona go to a mexican restront on theon my birthday and probably leave the kids with the baby sitter.
I love the cheese cake factory... kind of expensive but worth it :)
little foot that sounds like fun, i also enjoy mexican food.
oh wow fun. never thought somebody would post something like this so yeah. i don't care much for birthdays in general but two of my favorite ones were my 18 and 21. on the 18 i went out to hooters. heh fun times. and for 21 i could drink in public without getting into trouble. considering where i am currently. hahahah. anyways good stories guys.
yeah, well, it was definitely worth it all! haha! and I think my indian friend payed or something but yeah those places can get a tad expensive.
I've never been to the Cheesecake Factory, but my sister tells me that the food is amazing. The reason I haven't gone is because, like you said, it's pretty expensive.
On my birthday, I usually like to go out to eat and have a few drinks. Nothing elaborate, but my mom makes just about the best cakes you can imagine. My favorite is a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing that she does. Yum! My next birthday isn't until September, but I thought I'd post here since the topic surfaced again.
As for some of the people who don't see anything special about birthdays, I can kind of understand that. When you're a kid, you get treated like royalty on your special day, and get showered with presents, and as you grow up, you start to, hopefully, get uncomfortable with that. Besides, aging holds so many negative connotations that, by the time you're in your 20's, you're already starting to feel old. I get that. But me, personally, I like to celebrate, even if it is in a small way, just to do something different that I don't usually do.
I wasn't treated like royalty; quite the opposite, actually. this past birthday was nice, though, but I'll still never see my birthday as anything special.
I enjoyed my birthday last night, especially once it was midnight and I was allowed to go in to the pub. There was a lot I needed to let go of, and though I don't typically advocate people to do this, drinking alcohol sure helped.
My last post got cut off.
I also said that the thing I don't enjoy about my birthday, and many hollidays for that matter, is when people always ask me what I want as a present. I don't mind if people want to get me something, but I never know what to tell them because when I need something, I get it immediately. I don't wait around to see if someone will get it for me.
Oh, I know what you mean. I don't enjoy geting put on the spot, either. I don't expect people to get me presents, now that I'm 23. I haven't for a long time, to be honest. So when people ask me what I want, I get pretty uncomfortable. I feel like they feel that they're obligated to get me things, which is not the case at all! I try to tell them that, but they seem set in their ways. For me, a present is something you get that completely catches you off guard, no matter if it's an actual holiday or not. It's something that says, "I care" no matter how inexpensive it is, it's the thought that counts, and in this case, it's not a cliche, it's something that someone who knows me well does that demonstrates a loving gesture.
I've had a few awesome birthdays. One of which, was my 16th. My best friend planned a surprise birthday party for me in our choir class at school. i had no idea she was doing that, so I walked into choir and everythingn was dead silent. we had nearly 100 people in that particular choir. I walked into the room and started to panic. my choir teacher was always on us about being late and with the room being that quiet, I thought maybe something was wrong. I just stood in the doorway, kind of thinking what? for a few seconds. Then all of a sudden, the lights blasted on and everyone yelled, "Surprise!!!" and started singing happy birthday. I was amazed. My best friend, Linda, had gotten my mom to bring a cake and everything and I got presents from my best friend, of course, and the other people who knew me best. I got balloons and the entire period was dedicated to celibrating my birthday. I got to pick what we did. Mostly, I just sat around and talked with my friends and had cake and had fun. My choir teacher gave me flowers. The rest of the day, since i had my happy birthday balloons, lots of people wished me happy birthday and just for a day, I actually felt special. That was one of the best birthdays i've ever had.
Take Care,
Dawnielle
ah, I haven't tried the food, but I am sure it's at least decent, it kind of has to be being that popular and pricy.
I didn't get treated that special on my birthday I mostly had to organize my own, and I usually didn't get much stuff. I don't mind people asking me, personally, I just tell them well you don't have to but okay if you want here is what you can get me. and I usually say are you sure but I am usually the one giving gifts not the other way around. I have this elaborate one planned out for my friend, movie plus like 6 cds and a talking clock. I think a birthday card or something is always nice. I try to do that write something to them at least and say oh here your birthday card if I don't have presents it's just courteous I think. if it was my way everyone would be given at least 20 to 40 dollars who I know.
Can't say much for my birthdays, but usually they involve lots of sushi and good sake.
Japanese lover, eh? haha, totally not my way to go for birthdays. I usually like more classy and bigger stuff!
To those uncomfortable with people asking what you want: You're never too old for presents, as I tell my 18-year-old daughter. And consider that it's as much fun for someone to get you something you'll really like, as it is for you to get it. Ryan, I understand, but there's always something you can think of that you might want, not need necessarily, but gifts aren't all about need. Humans have given things to each other since time immemorial and I saw something once where even dolphins gift each other fish, so it must be something to do with us intelligent species.
Wow that's interesting, Leo. I never heard of that before. It's true we all have wants, but as I said if I want something I will get it and not wait for someone to get it for me. If they want to get me more, of something I like but may not necessarily need such as coffee, you won't hear me complain. Lol.
On my birthday, I often just re-orient myself with my age and how it's already a different number. I don't like celebrating it actually... parties wherein I become the center of attention just stresses me out.
nice and my birthdays have never really been wild but there are some gifts given, have a potluck dinner or go out for dinner and on my last birthday i got taken out to mini-golf and i ended up winning a free game which i yet have to go and do, smiles
There is cake given too and my favourite is carrot cake.
